Tips from Voters

  • I've read through the comments for Comic Ink and agree with every bit of it. Derek and Julie have brought something amazing to Comic Ink and it definately deserves all the accolades and the #1 spot.

  • Many places are your typical comic book dive. Stuck in the 80's, many stores are crappy, disorganized, and with the smell of a hundred unwashed nerds. Comic Ink is NOT one of those stores. The Comic Ink family has made the place bright and inviting with all kinds of new, modern and welcome ideas. They push the smaller books and their creators, without charging for access to their guests, and this store is a pleasure to shop in. I moved my comic saver here and not only get my bags and boards free (OK, I'm not special, so does everybody!) but he also has no minimum, there are guys with just a title or two on their pull lists, and best of all, no snobby attitude from the staff or owner like some other nearby stores. Comic Ink has quickly become the best of the best and appears posed to become even better.

  • Derek is a beast. I've been to a lot of comic stores where the staff has someone who specializes in different geeky areas. Derek can hold his own in just about any topic: Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, DC, Marvel, indie books, old toys, old cartoons, Magic The Gathering, D&D and other classic RPGs. The knowledge he brings with him is simply unreal and it makes it a pleasure to kill time in one of the most amazing stores I've seen. Derek clearly has a vision for Comic Ink and it's quickly become an amazing reflection of that vision.

  • It's awesome to see a family owned business that is so invested into making their store even better. My kids ADORE this store and we hope to shop there for many years to come.

  • The store was good before...but after the months of hard work and renovations...it's great!

  • I have been to pretty much every comic shop in the bay area, and Comic Ink is by far the best. When I say comic shop, I mean just that. Comic Ink is not a game store, not a book store, and aside from a couple stand up arcade games, its not a video game dealer. For the best selection in back issues or new comics, Comic Ink is the place to go. They also have a very awesome selection of toys as well. I will also add in that the ownership is very friendly. Be sure to get on the mailing list as they usually have a really good deal going on,.. like half price on books or toys. As I type this, all the trade paperbacks are 25% off. You can't beat this place if you are a comic nerd!

  • Love this store! The best comics and toy store in the Tri-Valley! And better than most outside the Tri-Valley! I've been shopping here regularly for the past decade. The initial draw was the vast array of back issues. And the previous owner was more personable than the staff at that one in Concord. But the changes that Derek and Julie have made since taking ownership a couple years back put this store at the top. Everything's been streamlined and opened up! Gone are the many display counters that made it difficult to access the wall of toys behind them. Gone are the fixtures that obsured views and created the feeling I was in a maze! Nothing is obscured anymore. One can see across to any area from any point in the store. And the selections are much more varied. Graphic novels and trades abound! Marvels and DCs are just HALF of the titles carried. A great selection of Dark Horse, Dynamite, IDW, Image, Moonstone, and many other 'indie' titles. And toys galore! Superheroes, Star Wars, Robots, Spaceships, Statues, Die-cast vehicles, Lead and Action figures, even Prototypes!. This is the place to find what you're looking for! And even what you're NOT looking for! It's also just a wonderful place to hang and escape. And they're not done... Julie's creating beautiful artwork to enhance the decor. And she just gets better and better! It's such a pleasure to walk in the front door! And the accompanied sound of the Star Trek door swoosh just reassures I'm entering a not-so-strange, newly atmosphered, and very comfortable world! Thanks guys! Keep up the good work!!

  • Remember when Comic Ink had NO graphic novels? Remember when there was just so much piled on the counters and hanging above it was hard to actually find anything? Remember when the store was pretty much an uninviting, bleak cave? Pepperidge Farm remembers! And so do I. I've been with Comic Ink through the good and the bad and I'm happy to be here when all those things I listed are just fading memories and this store really shines thanks to the family that owns it! The tri-valley stores have captured the vibe of the 80's Berkeley scene and it shows.

  • I've known Derek for many years and was not surprised when I went to Comic Ink and found him at the helm. Derek was definately born to run a comic shop and has done a great job making his store a memorable one.

  • This used to be our last resort shop now it's the first place we think of. What a turn around and a far cry from the scalper havens in Newark and Union City. Derek has gone out of his way to help us find toys and comics we wanted and didn't charge crazy prices like those other places.
