    South Park Cafe

This little spot in South Park really does feel like you've stepped into a Paris bistro. It's comfortable, warm and inviting. The food was quite good -- the pork confit salad was a standout -- and our waitress was very helpful and attentive -- but not too attentive. All in all, a lovely spot. I also hear it's nice for lunch.

    21st Amendment Brewery

The beer is the star here -- they make a good IPA and the watermelon wheat is pretty tasty on a warm day. The food is fine -- I'm a fan of the Cuban. It gets crazy on Giants game days. I like to go here during February for Strong Beer Month (along with Magnolia in the Haight).

  • Henry's, Great Meals Nightlife Restaurants, Neighborhood Bar New American Traditional American, 2600 Durant Ave Berkeley CA 94704

I checked this place out after the Chronicle review. The bar area is really nice -- lots of windows, large bar, lots of TVs for football watching. The food was tasty -- the Cuban was quite good -- though a little on the pricey side. I know it's a gastropub but $12 for a gardenburger is steep (that was on their web site; wasn't on the brunch menu when we were there). The waitstaff was nice, but the service in the bar area *was* slow, as the Chron review said. I'll probably go back, though I wonder if it gets very student-heavy when Cal is in session.
